Following a successful white-ball series against England, Bangladesh hosts Ireland for a multi-format series starting Saturday, March 18 that includes 3 ODIs, 3 T20Is and 1 Test match. This will be the first-ever multi-format series that the two countries will play at a senior level.

A part of the Future Tour Programs (FTP) announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2009, the tour begins with the ODI series at Sylhet followed by the T20I series at Chattogram on March 27 and, a historic Test, the first-ever between the two sides in Dhaka from April 4.

 

Bangladesh

Bangladesh, who announced a similar ODI squad that lost 1-2 to England in the just conclude ODI series will continue to be led by Tamim Iqbal while experienced campaigner Mahamudullah has been rested. Uncapped Zakir Hasan has got a call-up to the 16-member squad that also sees Yasir Ali, Nasum Ahmed and Shoriful Islam make comebacks. Taijul, who was picked in the ODI squad against England following Tamim Iqbal’s request, doesn’t find a place in the squad.

Ireland

While the one-off Test of the series will only be Ireland’s 4th in their cricket history and the first ever between Ireland and Bangladesh, their white-ball cricketers have some valuable experience under their belts including in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Ireland all-rounder Curtis Campher featured for Chattogram Challengers and his international skipper Andrew Balbirnie represented Khulna Titans. In 2020, Campher had also toured Bangladesh with Ireland A.
